The LOSSAN rail corridor stretches 351 miles from San Diego to San Luis Obispo, with the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, freight, commuter, and long-distance trains sharing the tracks and certain stations. Ongoing construction projects keep the infrastructure in top condition and contribute to overall improvements in rail travel along the corridor. Larger projects require tracks or stations to be closed so crews can perform necessary work, which can temporarily affect train service.

Track Closures

Updated October 9, 2025

Full-Service Shutdown – October 25-26, 2025

There will be no Pacific Surfliner trains operating between San Diego and San Luis Obispo during the weekend of October 25-26, 2025, due to Union Pacific, Metrolink and NCTD track closures both north and south of Los Angeles. No bus bridges will be provided. Please plan ahead for alternate travel arrangements.

Thruway Bus routes will continue to operate. However, any regularly scheduled train connections to the buses will not be available.

This closure is part of a coordinated effort by the host railroads along the LOSSAN corridor to complete critical track infrastructure projects, while reducing the overall impact on riders. Projects being advanced during the closure include:

  • Santa Barbara: Track bed and crossing work
  • Ventura: Track work and switch upgrades
  • Orange County: Track bed, crossing, and signal work, power pole replacements, as well as construction activities in support of the Orange County Coastal Rail Resiliency improvements
  • San Diego: Del Mar Bluff stabilization, capacity enhancements, and signal work.

The work is occurring concurrently in the various locations to reduce the number of future track closures and minimize the overall impact to passengers while making critical infrastructure improvements.
