Track Work and Service Alerts

Metrolink has closed train tracks in the San Clemente area due to damage from high tides and signal issues from waves.

Bus connections are now in place from September 7-11, 2026.

Passengers will be able to travel as far south as San Juan Capistrano station. However, any passengers planning to go farther south will need to disembark at Irvine station for a bus accommodation to Oceanside station. All passengers heading north of Oceanside station will also be accommodated to Irvine station by bus until further notice.

No Pacific Surfliner Service for Corridor-Wide Closure – September 12-13, 2026

There will be no Pacific Surfliner train service between San Diego and San Luis Obispo on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, 2026, due to coordinated track closures and infrastructure work by Union Pacific, Metrolink and North County Transit District (NCTD). No replacement bus service will be provided during the weekend closure. Please plan ahead and make alternate travel arrangements.

Friday, September 11 Service Impacts

Metrolink repair work will also affect two evening trains on Friday, September 11:
- Train 794 will terminate in Los Angeles, with passengers accommodated by bus for the remainder of the trip.
- Train 595 will be canceled, with passengers accommodated by bus.
Amtrak Connection Bus Service

Regularly scheduled Amtrak Connection bus routes will continue to operate during the closure. However, connections between these buses and Pacific Surfliner trains will not be available because train service will not be operating September 12–13.

Why Is Service Being Suspended?

The weekend closure allows multiple host railroads and transportation agencies along the LOSSAN Corridor to complete critical infrastructure and maintenance projects at the same time, helping reduce the need for additional future service disruptions.

Work planned throughout the corridor includes:
- Orange County: Infrastructure work near Irvine and ongoing slope stabilization and trail reconstruction in the San Clemente area.
- San Diego County: Double-track improvements, signal optimization, new railroad ties, track surfacing and bridge inspections. NCTD's work window will take all tracks between the Orange County Line and downtown San Diego out of service.
- Ventura County/Los Angeles County: Ballast cleaning, water pump maintenance and general track rehabilitation along the Ventura Subdivision.
By coordinating this work during the same weekend, agencies can advance several critical projects while reducing the number of separate closures that would otherwise impact passengers.

Service is scheduled to resume Monday, September 14. NCTD's work window is scheduled to conclude at 4:00 a.m. that morning.
September 19–20: Los Angeles–Van Nuys Bus Bridge

Due to track work repair, Pacific Surfliner service will be temporarily interrupted between Los Angeles and Van Nuys on September 19–20. Passengers on affected trains will transfer to connecting bus service* between Los Angeles and Van Nuys before continuing their trip by train. Additional travel time should be expected.

Northbound: Trains 761, 765, 769, 777 and 785 will connect to buses* at Los Angeles for service to Van Nuys, where passengers will transfer to connecting trains.

Southbound: Trains 770, 774, 782, 790 and 794 will connect to bus service* between Van Nuys and Los Angeles.

Trains 757 and 786 will be cancelled.

*Buses will not make the Glendale and Burbank stops
There will be no Pacific Surfliner train service anywhere along the corridor between San Diego and San Luis Obispo due to scheduled track closures. No bus bridges will be provided.

Amtrak Connection Bus routes will continue to operate. However, any regularly scheduled train connections to the buses will not be available.

Please make alternate travel arrangements.

Schedule Changes

Bus Schedule Changes

Labor Day Thruway Bus Schedule Adjustment

Pacific Surfliner Thruway Bus Route 17 will operate on a modified schedule for the Labor Day holiday.

Friday, September 4: Bus 4794 will depart all stops 60 minutes earlier, with no change to its final arrival in San Luis Obispo.
Monday, September 7: Bus 4794 will depart all stops 60 minutes earlier, with no change to its final arrival in San Luis Obispo.
All other Route 17 buses will operate on their regular schedules.

Passengers are encouraged to check their trip details before traveling.
Effective April 1, 2026:

Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo/Oakland (Route 17)

Amtrak Connection buses on Route 17 will be running an adjusted bus schedule over the holidays on November 24, 25, 29, 2026:
- 4794 will depart 60 minutes earlier at all stops
- 4790 will depart 60 minutes earlier at all stops

Station Notices

Effective September 8, 2026

Construction for the Camarillo Station ADA Improvements Project is scheduled to begin September 8, 2026, with construction work beginning September 14. Work is anticipated to continue through late May/early June 2027.

Camarillo Station will remain open and Pacific Surfliner train service is expected to continue throughout construction. However, passengers may encounter temporary changes to pedestrian routes, parking areas, boarding locations, and station access as work progresses.

The project will be completed in phases and includes improvements to station pathways, curb ramps, platforms and boarding areas, accessible parking, crosswalks, signage, and other station features.

Pacific Surfliner trains continue to serve all stations according to the schedules. However, some ticket windows are currently closed at the following stations:
- San Juan Capistrano: Nearest staffed station is Anaheim
- Santa Ana: Nearest staffed station is Anaheim
- Irvine: Nearest staffed station is Anaheim
Solana Beach:
- Nearest staffed station is Santa Fe Depot (San Diego) or Oceanside
- Limited station hours: open Saturday-Tuesday, closed Wednesday-Friday. Ticket window hours are 4:15 am to 12:30 am.

FAQs

Purchase tickets using the online booking tool (Book Now button at the top of the page), the Amtrak app, or by phone at 1-800-USA-RAIL. Irvine, Santa Ana, and Anaheim also have self-serve ticket kiosks (located inside the station building) where passengers can make new reservations, adjust existing reservations, or print out tickets.

Passengers without a smartphone or access to a ticket kiosk may call 1-800-USA-Rail to purchase a ticket. The Amtrak agent can provide a confirmation code once a trip is booked. That code can be given to the conductor on board in lieu of a printed or electronic ticket.
Unreserved Coach tickets can be saved and used at a later date (up to one year from the date listed on the ticket) without making any changes to the reservation. Some restrictions may apply, such as when the trains are all-reserved on peak travel days.

Business Class reservations do need to be updated if plans change. If you made your reservation online, visit Amtrak.com and select “Modify Trip”. Log into your Amtrak Guest Rewards account or enter your reservation number and email address to make changes to your trip. You can also call 800-USA-RAIL in advance of your ticketed departure.

Pacific Surfliner tickets are considered "Flexible Fares". Tickets can be cancelled with a full refund to original form of payment with no fees if canceled before departure. There are no change fees. You can get more details on cancellation policies on Amtrak.com.
